Korede Bello: The "Godwin" Crooner's Journey in Afropop
Korede Bello, born Adekunle Ayuba on February 29, 1996, in Lagos State, Nigeria, is a celebrated singer and songwriter in the Nigerian Afropop scene. Known for his catchy tunes and charming persona, Bello's journey into music began at a young age.
Growing up in Lagos, he completed his primary and secondary education there. His passion for music ignited early, and he reportedly wrote his first song in primary school. By the time he was in secondary school, Bello was already recording music professionally, initially under the stage name "African Prince."
A significant turning point in his career came when he was introduced to Don Jazzy, the head of Mavin Records. Impressed by his talent, Don Jazzy signed Korede Bello to the label on February 28, 2014. This marked the beginning of his mainstream success.
In 2015, Korede Bello released the hit single "Godwin," a semi-gospel and pop song that quickly became a national anthem, topping music charts across Nigeria. This track propelled him to widespread recognition and solidified his place in the Nigerian music industry.
During his time with Mavin Records (until 2021), he released other popular songs such as "African Princess" and "Do Like That." "Do Like That" achieved significant commercial success, even earning a Gold certification in Canada in 2016 and a Gold Certification Award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2021.
Beyond his musical achievements, Korede Bello pursued higher education, studying Mass Communication at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and obtaining a Higher National Diploma. He is also recognized as an Associate Member of the Institute of Information Management.
Korede Bello has also been involved in humanitarian activities and served as a Youth Ambassador for the Nigerian Police Force. His career showcases a blend of musical talent, academic pursuits, and a commitment to social causes, making him a notable figure in Nigerian contemporary culture.
